“ An Insight into COVID: From the perspective of Physical and Mental health”
As a tribute to late. Prof.
Rajendra Prasad (founder of UBA program) and in association with The Institute
of Engineers (India), Kattankulathur local centre an online webinar “An
Insight into COVID: From the perspective of Physical and Mental health” was
conducted on 02.06.2021, 11 AM through zoom platform. An insight on COVID from
the perspective of physical and mental health. About 200 members were connected
through the zoom platform virtually.
Dr. V. Thirumurugan Associate
Director (CL), Nodal officer (UBA) delivered the welcome address. Firstly, he
mentioned the support of our Honourable
Chancellor Dr. T.R.Paarivendhar,
Member of Parliament Dr. Ravi
Pachamoothoo, Pro Chancellor (Admin), Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, Pro Chancellor
(Academics), Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice
Chancellor (i/c) SRMIST, Dr.S.Ponnusamy Registrar (ic). He
emphasized the role of Prof. Rajendra Prasad and the endowments of UBA-SRMIST
in uplifting the livelihoods of 8 adopted villages in Chengalpattu and
Kanchipuram Dist., during the pandemic situation from 2020-21. He formally
welcomed the guest speakers for the webinar.
Dr. R. Balamurugan, Deputy
Medical Superintendent, Professor of surgery and Consultant Laparoscopic
surgeon, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre delivered his lecture
on PHYSCIAL HEALTH, where he covered the scientific background of the virus,
disease transmission, symptoms, possible treatment options, preventive
measures, role of Government in disease control, vaccination drives, and
scientific aspects of different vaccines. He reiterated that only through
public support by adopting 3 MANTRAS wearing mask, frequent hand wash and
personal hygiene could be the best way for us to overcome this distress
situation. This session ended with Q&A session, participants come up with
lot of questions, and experts clearly explained and clarified their queries on
COVID, vaccines and symptoms.
Followed by session 1,
Ms. A. Thendralarasi, Consultant psychologist, TNPA has delivered her talk from
the prescriptive of MENTAL HEALTH. The session has lot of interaction with the
participant and has exercise to get relief from stress, anxiety and depression
during the lockdown across all ages. She gave some mental exercise, physical
stress busters and ways to create positive environment through interaction with
kith and kins. She clearly explained the need for mental stability during this
hour and clarified the queries of the participants.
Finally, the webinar
ended with vote of thanks by Dr. B. Samuel Jacob, Asst. Prof. (Biotech.),
SRMIST. He thanked the speakers for their valuable time and giving an in
detailed information on physical and mental health as the participants felt it
more positive. He acknowledged the office bearers of Institution of Engineers
(India), Dr. S Dhanalakshmi, Honorary Secretary and Dr.P.T.Ravichandran,
Chairman for their valuable support in the conduct of this awareness webinar.
He thanked the Nodal officer Dr.V.Thirumurugan and SRMIST management for the
support and disseminating the awareness in line with Government of India
recommendation for COVID. He thanked the participants for their active
involvement throughout the programme.
Ms. A. T. Ranjini, and
Ms . P. Mohanasundari UBA-SRMIST, took efforts in the smooth conduct of the event
and maintaining the participants throughout the programme. As demanded by the participants
and positive feedback response, UBA –SRMIST planned to conduct such series of
webinar in near future for the benefit of the students, academicians, publics
and rural citizens of India.
