The Department of ECE and the IEEE - SRM Student Branch, in collaboration with Unnat Bharath Abhiyan, organized an outreach event on August 28, 2024 (10:00 am to 1:00 pm), at UBA-adopted Anjur Village for rural high school students and teachers. This event aimed to raise awareness and educate the rural government high school community about Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality. It was part of the International Conference on Sustainable Development Goals – 2024, with the theme: "Celebrating Resilience: Women's Equality." 

Dr. P. Viyakumar, Professor of ECE at SRMIST, KTR Campus, welcomed the gathering. Dr. M. S. Vasanthi, Associate Professor of ECE and event Convener, provided an overview of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 1–17) and emphasized the significance of SDG 5 – Gender Equality and Government initiatives to the students of Govt High School, Anjur.


 Around 86 students from the 11th standard participated in the awareness program. The message of supporting gender equality was conveyed through a meme play performed by third-year ECE students (Ms. Vasantha, Ms. Rohini, Ms. Vidya Sree, Ms. Akankshya, and Ms. Pragati). The performance was well-received by the students, with Ms. Sahana narrating the context of each scene. The event continued with a quiz program, where students actively participated and won prizes. The quiz assessed their awareness of Gender Equality. Another engaging activity was "Guess Who?" which involved identifying famous personalities from various fields. The students eagerly participated, and the quiz and "Guess Who?" sessions were hosted by Ms. Sahana, Mr. Kanishk, and Mr. Kaushik in a bilingual format. A highlight of the event was the "Situation Problem" activity, where students were presented with a scenario and their decision-making skills were evaluated in relation to gender equality. Mr. Sreeram and Ms. Kristen conducted this event, offering insights into the students' perspectives on gender equality. Prizes were awarded to the winners of the quiz, "Guess Who?" and the situation-based solution activities. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. M. Susila, Associate Professor of ECE and one of the event Convenor. Ms.Anju, was part of the entire event who represented UBA-SRMIST.
