The Solar Ambassador Workshop 2024, held at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, was a significant event promoting solar energy and sustainability. Organized in collaboration with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) and the Energy Swaraj Foundation, the workshop aimed to equip participants with knowledge and skills to serve as ambassadors of renewable energy, aligning with Mahatma Gandhi's principles of self-reliance and sustainability.
Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor of SRMIST, commenced the event by garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, followed by a Swachhata Pledge led by Dr. Pradeep, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering. The workshop officially started at 10 am at the Dr.T.P. Ganesan Auditorium, where participants were welcomed by Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director of Campus Life, who emphasized the importance of renewable energy for a sustainable future.
In his keynote address, Vice Chancellor Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan highlighted SRMIST's dedication to sustainability and the advancements in solar energy technologies. He stressed the importance of empowering students to lead in the renewable energy sector. Solar instruments were distributed to participants by SRMIST Registrar Dr. S. Ponnusamy, followed by a lecture on the basics of electricity and solar energy by Dr. R. Sridhar HOD EEE.
Participants were further inspired by a video message from Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki of the Energy Swaraj Foundation. After lunch, the workshop transitioned to a hands-on session where participants were trained in installing solar study lights, gaining practical knowledge in wiring, soldering, and assembling solar lamps. The day concluded with participants proudly posing with their installed lights, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. R. Senthil, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering.
The Solar Ambassador Workshop 2024 was a successful initiative that not only deepened the participants' understanding of solar energy but also reaffirmed SRMIST's commitment to fostering a culture of innovation, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.
