A Solar Ambassador Workshop was conducted by Unnat Bharat Abhiyan – SRMIST in association with department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering - SRMIST on 25th November 2024 at Singaperumal Koil Higher Secondary School, aimed at educating students about solar energy and its importance in sustainable development. The workshop began with an introductory session by Dr. V. Thirumurugan, the nodal officer of UBA-SRMIST and Associate Director of SRMIST Campus Life. He discussed the growing importance of renewable energy, with a special focus on solar power as a clean, sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. He highlighted the role of solar energy in reducing carbon emissions and combating climate change. followed his speech Mrs. Lalitha, School headmistress of Government higher secondary school, SP Koil welcomed all of the volunteers and officials from SRMIST and showed their gratitude towards our service. After this Dr.R. Sridhar, HOD – Department of electrical and Electronics Engineering started with the demonstration of assembling the solar study lamp. All the students were provided with assembling kit worth 850 rupees each containing parts of solar lamp. Dr.R. Sridhar initially explained all the parts and then show a video of how to assemble the solar lamp. The students were also involved in assembling small solar circuits, which gave them hands-on experience in understanding how solar energy is harnessed and also make their own study lamps using the kit. Totally 60 students participated from grade 12. During the workshop, SRM University introduced the concept of "Solar Ambassadors" — students who can lead the way in spreading awareness about solar energy and its benefits within their schools and local communities. The participants were encouraged to take the initiative in promoting the use of solar energy and energy conservation practices among their peers and families. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by the Principal of Singaperumal Koil Higher Secondary School, who expressed gratitude to SRM University for conducting the informative session and promised continued collaboration in future initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability.
