National
Girl Child Day is commemorated each year in India on January 24. Launched in
2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Government of
India, the program seeks to enhance public awareness on the inequalities
encountered by girls in Indian society. The day is observed with organised
actions, including awareness campaigns on Save the Girl Child, child sex
ratios, and the creation of a safe and healthy environment for girls. SRM
Muthucharam Community Radio, in collaboration with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0,
SRMIST, has organised a National Girl Child Day Outreach Initiative aimed at
empowering female students at rural schools, namely at Panchayat Union Middle
School in Pattaravakkam village, on February 7, 2025. Dr. T. Kalaivani, the station
manager of SRM Muthucharam Community Radio, warmly welcomed attendees to the
event and underscored the significance of National Girl Child Day, along with
the vital role of community radio in local outreach activities. The keynote
presentation titled "Empowerment and Independence of Girls" was
delivered by Dr. C. Preferencial Kala, Professor in the Department of Physics
and Nanotechnology at SRMIST. The headmistress of Panchayat Union Middle School

participated in the event received accolades. Refreshments and gifts of
appreciation were generously provided to each student and instructor. The vote
of thanks was delivered by Assistant Station Manager Dr. R.M. Hariharan, who exemplified
