‘Spectacular Science’ is an Educational Outreach program conceptualised to celebrate the spirit of National Science Day with Ninnakarai Government School Students. In alignment with the vision and mission of ‘Go Extra Mile’s Community Outreach program initiative ‘Sahyog’ and to celebrate the spirit of National Science Day, an Educational Outreach program of theme ‘Spectacular Science’ was conducted for the 6th, 7th and 8th class students at Ninnakarai Government School on Friday, 07.03.2025, in association with UBASRMIST and Evergrowth Academy. The activities taken up are in alignment with SDG4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17(Partnerships for the goals) 37 students in total (BBA and MBA) conducted several activities for the students, with guidance from G.E.M. Coordinator – Dr. Nagalakshmi M.V.N. FoM students gained valuable insights and learning experiences by hands-on "community engagement" or "service-learning”. By engaging with children from the government school, primarily by acting as mentors or tutors for a day, MBA students stand potentially benefitted in the following ways
• Skill Development: o Soft Skills: Outreach activities provide opportunities to hone essential soft skills like communication, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving. 1 o Practical Application: Students can apply their MBA knowledge and skills in a practical, real-world setting, gaining valuable experience beyond the classroom. o Leadership and Communication: Leading or participating in outreach initiatives allows students to develop their leadership and communication skills, which are highly valued in the business world.
• Community Engagement: o Making a Difference: Participating in outreach programs allows MBA students to contribute to their communities and make a positive impact. o Understanding Diverse Perspectives: Engaging with different communities and individuals can broaden students' perspectives and foster empathy. o Social Responsibility: Outreach activities promote a sense of social responsibility and encourage students to become active citizens.
• Career Advancement: o Enhanced Resume: Participation in outreach activities can strengthen a student's resume and demonstrate a commitment to social responsibility and community engagement. o Networking Opportunities: Outreach programs can provide opportunities to network with professionals in the field and build relationships. o Employer Preference: Employers increasingly value candidates who demonstrate a commitment to social responsibility and community engagement. Activities taken up Science has the power to inspire, ignite curiosity, and shape the future! The FoM students engaged the school students through science-related videos, interactive activities, and a fun poster-making competition. Through video lessons engaging content was displayed and discussed with school students to introduce middle schoolers (grades 6-8) to the exciting world of science and STEM careers. FoM students took things up a notch with trivia, quizzes, and interactive activities to make learning fun and impactful. The students were incredibly enthusiastic and participated actively, creating posters, sharing their thoughts, and truly immersing themselves in the topics. 2 The best performing students in the categories of poster making and quiz competition were given away prizes sponsored by the Faculty of Management, SRMIST
